This year’s 2018 HLSR WCBBQ Contest was our best year ever!
We can’t thank everyone enough for your support and generosity. Thank you for all your kind words and praises for our team.
Our food was the best it’s ever been. A big thanks, as always, to Big Ron for your amazing BBQ sauce and Rub. www.bigronswebsite.com
A huge thanks to our new friends at Monster Energy Drink. Our bar looked amazing, and you kept our team energized.
To our extended family of donors: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. We are so fortunate to include you in our SCAP Family. We are extremely blessed to have so many Donors that return to us year after year. (Don’t forget to visit the China Baroque booth during Rodeo.) www.chinabaroque.com
And finally to our team. There are no words that can express our gratitude and love for the amazing Slow Cookers at Play. Some of the many comments that we received from our guests include that we are “like a well-oiled machine”. Watching us work is like “watching a choreographed danced routine”. They can’t believe that we are just a group of friends and family having fun, because we are all so professional. Participating is a lot of hard physical labor that requires weekends and overnights and time away from our families. This year, it never once felt like WORK. We have truly enjoyed every minute of this year’s BBQ season. A HUGE thank you to those of you who stepped into new roles and asked to take on more responsibility. We truly couldn’t do what we do without our team. We love you all.
Finally, the results are in! The Slow Cookers at Play had one of their best years ever!
This year the HLSR changed their judging rules. For the first time ever, 252 teams had the ability to participate in 4 different competitions: Brisket, Ribs, Chicken, and Dessert. In some of the competitions, the winner was determined by 1/100th of a point.
We are so proud to announce that we placed 49th overall. TOP 50!!!!
We were in the top 19% for total points and only 27.99 points away from 1st place.
Here’s how we did in the individual rounds…
Ashley’s Apple Crumble with Bourbon Soaked Cranberries placed 23rd out of 169 entries.
She placed in the top 13% and was actually in 7th place in points. (There were A LOT of ties in the dessert round!)
Chris’ Brisket placed 16th out of 247 entries!!!!
The competition was so fierce that we were actually in the Top 6% and 8th in points.
Our brisket was only 4.66 points out of first place.
This was our first year cooking Chicken at the Rodeo. Rusty brought his “Rustisserie” and turned in an amazing entry. He placed 44th out of 243 entries, with some of the juiciest chicken we’ve ever tasted.
The Chicken Competition must have been just as fierce as Brisket, because ours actually ranked 18th in points, to finish in the top 18%, just 16.66 points out of first place.
And finally Chris’ Ribs placed 175th out of 252 entries, and 45th in points.
Although the Ribs didn’t do as well as we’d hoped this year, we still have our 2014 Finalist banner, when Chris took 8th place in Ribs, and stood proudly on the stage with some of the best cooks in the world.
We are extremely proud of all of our team cooks. This was definitely one for the record books.
Thank you for an amazing year!
Until next year,
The Slow Cookers at Play
