HLSR Frequently Asked Questions…

The Slow Cookers at Play welcome you to the 2020 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo BBQ Cook-off! Over the years, we’ve developed some helpful hints to prepare for the event. Below are the answers to “Frequently Asked Questions” along with some helpful hints and web links to make your cook-off experience more enjoyable.

How do I find the Slow Cooker at Play BBQ tent?

  • We are in space C-1008, in the corner closest to 610 and Kirby. HSLR will have maps and team locations posted at intersections throughout the cook-off. A map to our tent is printed on the back of your ticket.
  • Important times for the events on Friday and Saturday. 
    • 5:00pm: Tent opens!
    • 6:00pm: Serving line opens. It will stay open until the food is all gone.o 8:00pm: Dance Party begins!
    • 11:00pm: HSLR’s official time to close the tents.

What’s on the Menu?

  • Brisket, Pulled Pork, Ribs, Sausage, Jambalaya, Smoked Cabbage and all the fixings.
  • Beer, Wine, Soft Drinks, Water, and Coffee will be available.
  • Arrive early for our special Deep Eddy Vodka Happy Hour

What do I need to get in to the HSLR Cook-off?

  • You must purchase an NRG gate ticket to get into the main HSLR Cook-off. (One day tickets are $20 or purchase a season ticket good for the entire rodeo for $35.)
  • Your SCAP Tickets allow you access to the Slow Cookers at Play Private Event only!
  • Each SCAP ticket is for an individual and you MUST have it with you to enter the tent.
  • VIP badges require accompanying ticket to gain entry.
  • Valid ID’s must be presented to the Harris County Sheriffs at the SCAP tent entrance and at the bar.
  • We expect our guests to have a great time, however, we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.

What should I wear?

  • Dress for the weather during the daylight hours but be prepared for the possibility of an extreme drop in temperature after the sun goes down.
  • Wear comfortable shoes or boots, and be prepared to walk.
  • Travel light. There is no storage for personal items and the team is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

What about transportation and parking?

  • Be prepared for traffic. It’s Houston, and the rodeo activities add their own twist to the madness.
  • View the transportation options specific to the cook-off on the Bar-B-Que-Contest page. There are 2 officialrodeo cook-off cash lots. (610 and the Yellow lots). 
    •  The 610 lot allows the closest access to our tent.
    • Official Rodeo Cash parking is $20.00 for the cook-off.
  • Park & Ride or the METRORail. Check for your specific ride times. Most close at 1am.
  • LYFT and Ride Sharing areas in the Green Lot.​
