The Slow Cookers at Play have been doing the HLSR Cook off for a while now, and each year we add new things to expand the team. Lately, things have looked very differently, with many events being cancelled for safety concerns. (Stupid Covid-19) So, to add a little something special to the team this year, the Slow Cookers at Play have added a new mascot – Groovy!

Amy & Chris sponsored a calf for the 2020 Calf Scramble. Unfortunately, the Rodeo was cancelled the day they were supposed to participate in the Calf Scramble event. There were so many disappointed Scramblers and Donors! Luckily, HLSR jumped into action and the remaining Scramblers were entered into a lottery system, giving them the chance to participate, despite the pandemic.

Our lucky winner is Addison Guymon, a senior with the Arlington Heights FFA, in Fort Worth. We have been corresponding over the last few months, and finally, this weekend, we had the opportunity to meet in person!

Groovy is a one-year old Red Angus Heifer. Addison combined her Houston and Fort Worth Calf Scramble winnings to purchase this beautiful girl. Groovy joins her sister cows, Glory and Betsy, as Addison works towards her goal of raising a herd for her family.

Over the summer, Addison has been working hard to get Groovy in tip-top shape for competition. Groovy is still small for her age, so she is on a special diet to help her fill out. She also goes through an extensive beauty regime to combat dry skin and make sure her hair is silky smooth and ready for the runway.

Stay tuned for Part 2 to find out how Groovy did in the Progress Show!
